Ken Christensen was the founding Chairman of the Leadership Huntington program under the Huntington Township Chamber Foundation and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the LH Foundation. He has previously served as a Town of Huntington Councilman, twice Chairman of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Foundation. He has served as Exalted Ruler of the Huntington Elks Club and has been President or Chair of the following organizations: Huntington’s All America City Committee, Huntington Station Rotary Club, Cow Harbor Soccer Club, Huntington Housing Coalition, Huntington Station Revitalization Committee, Broadway/110 Revitalization Committee, Task Force on Illegal Housing, Suffolk County Association of Master Plumbers and the U.S. Air Force Academy Parents Club of Long Island. He has also served as a Director on the Board of the Huntington YMCA and was Commissioner and Secretary of the Tri Village Little League and has been an Assistant Scout Master & Advancement Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 170.
A 1959 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, he has served the academy as National VP of the Alumni Association, Trustee of the Kings Point Fund and President of the Blue & Gray Club.
His awards include the Huntington Chamber’s John Klaber Award, Kings Point National Meritorious Alumni Award, Nathan Hale District BSA Good Deed Award, Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship and he is a member of the Town of Huntington Softball Hall of Fame.
He currently serves as a Director on the Town of Huntington Economic Development Corporation, the Huntington Station Business Improvement District, and the Chamber of Commerce Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Huntington Community Council and is a member of the Town of Huntington Environmental Open Space and Park Fund Review Advisory Committee and the Town of Huntington Affordable Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board. He still serves on the Steering Committee of the Huntington Housing Coalition where he had been the founding moderator. He also serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Wine & Food Society’s Long Island Branch.
Ken’s local employment included 35 years as President of Arthur Christensen, Inc. and 11 years as Project Director for the Suffolk County Office of Community Development. A resident of Huntington since 1955, he lives in Greenlawn with his wife Nancy and they have 4 children and nine grandchildren.
